Celebrating 10 Years of Dedication: Dawn Babbie
| | Very early in the history of Houston Heavy Machinery, just over ten years ago, my good friend Dawn Babbie and I were talking on the phone, and I was venting to her about my struggles collecting money from one of our customers. She asked me about the situation, and after I explained everything, she enthusiastically offered to help make some phone calls and see if she could talk this guy into paying his bills.
The task was even harder than she had imagined and took a lot of persistence, but she proved to be much more successful at it than I had been. Dawn was still working for UNI International at the time and supporting us with overseas logistics. I came up with the idea of opening a foreign trade zone on our property, it was quite a complicated process, and Dawn was my go-to expert to help make it happen.
Our friendship and business relationship grew as time passed, and as Houston Heavy Machinery became more involved in the rental business, collection issues became more of a challenge. Dawn offered to help with collections part-time, and I was excited to have her help and to have her as part of the team. I brought her on board, and she worked here as a part-time second job.
The rental business continued to grow, and so did the collections workload. After about a year, it was getting to be too much, and she had to decide whether to stay at UNI International or come to Houston Heavy Machinery full-time. We were very fortunate that she chose Houston Heavy Machinery.
From that point forward, she managed our collections and learned everything about our accounting processes. She became our one-woman powerhouse in accounting and collections, holding a near-perfect collections record for years. It was remarkable. Even the most difficult customers would eventually give in to her, it was amazing what she was able to achieve, all while keeping our books reconciled, producing financial statements for our banks, and paying our bills.
As we continued to grow, she slowly built a loyal team around her. I would come up with crazy ideas, and she would figure out how to make them a reality. Weāve been quite the team all these years, and Houston Heavy Machinery would never be where it is today without her.
Iām very proud to congratulate Dawn and offer a heartfelt thank-you for her ten years of amazing service. She is, without a doubt, the hardest worker I have ever met, and we are all so fortunate to have her on our team. I canāt wait to see what weāre able to accomplish together in the next ten years!

šÆ Customer Appreciation Clay Shoot
| | | We traded hard hats for shotguns at our annual Customer Appreciation Clay Shoot, and it was an absolute blast… literally! We had over 50 customers join us this year! Last month, we gathered customers, partners, and team members for a day of clay shooting, good food, and great company. The event was a fun way to thank our loyal customers for their continued trust and partnership while enjoying some friendly competition out at the range.
Everyone showed off impressive aim (and even better teamwork), and it was incredible seeing so many familiar faces come together outside of the job site. Weāre already looking forward to topping it next year!
| | A HUGE thank-you to Brenda, Celeste, Chad, Ivan, Natalie, Scott, & Leslie for all their hard work setting up and keeping everything running smoothly. Your teamwork helped make the event such a success! We couldnāt do what we do without you.
